In the centre of the mediaeval bastide of Mirepoix

The département of Ariège :

Ariège enjoys a very comfortable climate, located as it is between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic.
The winters are mild, with snow mainly limited to the mountain range of the Pyrenees; spring and autumn give long periods of fine settled weather; and the summers are warm but not uncomfortably hot.
Apart from a few exceptional days per year, Ariège does not suffer from high winds.

It is an area conveniently situated for seaside and mountain, with major routes easily accessible - Toulouse 45 minutes, Carcassonne 30 minutes, Perpignan and Andorra both 90 minutes. And it offers a wide diversity of natural unspoilt landscape, right in the middle of the Cathar Pyrenees, a region of ancient monuments and other traces of the past.

Mirepoix:

In the heart of Cathar country, Mirepoix and its surrounding villages offer beautiful countryside and a colourful setting for a range of leisure activities. Nobody can fail to be entranced by Mirepoix itself, a mediaeval bastide with its cathedral and 14thC couverts or arcades.

Country walks and fishing everywhere, swimming and water sports in the large Lac de Montbel, local festivals (jazz and swing, marionettes, apple harvest, etc.), historical pageants, pottery and antique fairs, markets for local goods ….. all in unspoilt surroundings and enhanced by the beauty of Ariège's rich heritage.

Mirepoix is not only renowned for the quality of life, but also for its gastronomy. Many hotels and restaurants are waiting to introduce you to the delights of our local produce.

A thriving small town with a population of 3500. As well as supermarkets and small grocers, there are many butchers and cooked meats specialists, bakeries and cake shops.
